Stellar Crystal Snowflake


Yarn: Any yarn would work, the size of snowflake will depend on the yarn you use. I made the white snowflake with cotton 10 thread and hook 1.5 mm and the final dimension of the finished snowflake is around 11 cm (4.3 inches). If you choose thicker yarn, your snowflake will turn out bigger.

Hook: Hook appropriate for the yarn you chose.

Stitches and abbrevations (US terms)

ch - chain
sl st - slip stitch
sc - single crochet
dc - double crochet
hdc - half double crochet
tr - treble crochet

Special stitches

2-dc cluster - *yarn over once, insert the hook into the stitch or chain space, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops* (2 loops remain on hook),  repeat from * once more, (3 loops remain on hook), yarn over and pull through all 3 loops 

3-dc cluster - *yarn over once, insert the hook into the stitch or chain space, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over again and pull through 2 loops* (2 loops remain on hook),  repeat from * twice more, (4 loops remain on hook), yarn over and pull through all 4 loops

4-chain picot -  ch 4, slip stitch in 4th chain from hook

5-chain picot -  ch 5, slip stitch in 5th chain from hook

7-chain picot -  ch 7, slip stitch in 7th chain from hook

Starting ring

Start by making a magic ring or ch5 and sl st in 1st ch.

Round 1

ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), 23 dc, sl st in 3th chain of ch 3

Round 1

Round 2

ch 3, dc in the same space, [2dc in the next stitch] 2 times, ch 6, skip next dc, *[2dc in the next stitch] 3 times, ch 6, skip next dc*, repeat from * 3 more times, [2dc in the next stitch] 3 times, ch 2, tr in the 3th ch of starting ch 3. 
Last ch 2 and tr acts as ch 6 space.

Round 2

Round 3

ch 2, [2-dc cluster, ch 3,3-dc cluster] in the same space, *ch 9, [3-dc cluster, ch 3] 2 times and 3-dc cluster in the next ch 6 space*, repeat from * 4 more times, ch 9, 3-dc cluster in the first ch 6 space from round 2, ch 1, hdc in the 2-dc cluster. 
Last ch 1 and hdr acts as ch 3 space.

Beginning 3-dc cluster is done differently (ch 2 plus 2-dc cluster)

ch 7, dc in the next ch 3 space, *ch 4, [dc, ch 2, dc] in the next ch 9 space, [ch 4, dc in next ch 3 space] 2 times*, repeat from * 4 more times, ch 4, [dc, ch 2, dc] in the next ch 9 space, ch 4, sl st in 3th chain of ch 7

Round 4

Round 5

ch 3, [2 dc, 4-chain picot, 2 dc] in the next ch 4 space, dc in next dc, *4 dc in the next ch 4 space, dc in next dc, [2 dc, 5-chain picot, 7-chain picot, 5-chain picot, 2 dc] in next ch 2 space, dc in next dc, 4 dc in the next ch 4 space, dc in next dc, [2 dc, 4-chain picot, 2 dc] in the next ch 4 space, dc in next dc*, repeat from * 4 more times, 4 dc in the next ch 4 space, dc in next dc, [2 dc, 5-chain picot, 7-chain picot, 5-chain picot, 2 dc] in next ch 2 space, dc in next dc, 4 dc in the next ch 4 space, sl st in 3th chain of ch 3. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
